Vice President of Children's Services

The Role

Provides overall leadership and direction to the agency's children's programs; directly supervises children's services directors. Responsible for developing and managing program budgets; ensuring program offerings are of the highest possible quality; engages in ongoing, proactive quality improvement activities in all children's programs; ensures compliance with all program licensing/certification standards. Explores and develops new lines of business in the children's program area.

Responsibilities

  • Protect the rights and dignities of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and extend these rights and dignities to family members and guardians.
  • Upholds and complies with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, consumers, family members, and visitors.
  • Commits to organizational quality initiatives by developing and participating in programs that assure quality improvements and team processes.
  • Supervise and direct employees in developing and maintaining high-quality supportive services, including mentoring staff by following through on timely performance appraisals, discipline and employee relations, wage and salary, and interview and hiring processes as necessary.
  • Ensure that staff document all activities according to the requirements necessary for billing, agency policies, or regulatory requirements.
  • Assumes overall responsibility for the certification, licensing, and credentialing of all programs in accordance with each funder's/regulator's rules and regulations.
  • Represent the organization at external meetings and community activities to enhance the organization's community profile and reputation.
  • When necessary, participate in the treatment planning process and monitor progress in meeting the goals when the case warrants additional clinical expertise, bill time as appropriate.
  • Along with the CFO and CEO, the Vice President of Children's Services is responsible for developing, monitoring, and sound fiscal management of program budgets.
  • Explores and develops new, complimentary lines of business in the children's program area.
  • Develop rapport with key academic institutions in the area to establish a research program that is practical, simple, applied, and germane to agency clients and enterprises. Engage interns and staff alike to create a culture of critical, creative inquiry and service through this research.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through participation in professional organizations, conferences, and in-services. Participate in inter- and intra-departmental meetings; work in cooperation with others to promote the personal well-being of those served.
  • Design, develop, and host an annual professional conference(s) examining practical, effective, and progressive practices in children's services.
  • Assess the overall program structure and integration to best arrange effective, collegial interaction and collaboration between disciplines, programs, and departments.
  • Follow all agency guidelines and department-specific policies (i.e., sick time or vacation time usage and call-in policies, dress codes, etc.) as specified in the personnel manual.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor related to the organization's mission, goals, and operations.

Internal/External Relationships

Internal: Consult with other members of the organization in areas of expertise.

External: Coordinate and chair, when necessary, team or specific meetings. Participate in interagency activities and statewide meetings as appropriate and directed.

Working Conditions

Natural settings, center, and home-based interventions, which shall require local travel. General business office conditions, working with computers, telephones, photocopy equipment, and fax machines. The work environment is contained in a program location that necessitates frequent child and family contact.

Physical Requirements

Ability to successfully perform this job's essential function with reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Ability to deal with a wide range of individual and programmatic issues. Frequent sitting, standing, and walking. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Education
    • Must meet the educational requirements with an earned master’s degree in a relevant discipline; a terminal degree in a similar field and/or professional licensure is desirable.
    • Experience
    • 7+ years of experience administering children’s clinical program(s).
    • Skills
    • Worked with children with various diagnoses, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and dually diagnosed individuals.     • Current safety Care and CPR certifications.
    • Must have a valid driver's license, safe driving record, automobile insurance, and access to a vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport.
